Participation in the Elimination Rounds of the Sports Arbitration Moot

11.06.2025

On 22–23 May, our office was represented in the Sports Arbitration Moot Elimination Rounds by Vasilis Fotiou, who had the honour to act as an arbitrator in the round of 16.

Law students and arbitration experts from around the world participated in this fantastic competition. The exceptional performances of the participants reaffirmed the prestige of SAM, a competition that attracts top-level students and schools with an interest in arbitration and sports.

As part of the Moot, two interesting sports law conferences took place, offering valuable insights and stimulating discussions on key developments in the field of sports law. The panels were composed of distinguished speakers, including CAS arbitrators, sports law practitioners and professionals working in sports organisations. On the first day, the Panel exchanged opinions on their experiences in working in a sports federation, the day-to-day activities and the necessary skills to have a successful stint. On the second day, the developments regarding Article 17 FIFA RSTP were discussed by the speakers, following the legal shockwave caused by the Diarra ruling. Finally, the last panel made an informative discussion on CAS Procedural Rules, providing the attendants with interesting practical tips on CAS proceedings.

This was the second consecutive year that AP Sports Law participated in SAM. It is a real joy to be part of such a special event, to reunite with old friends and to meet with new colleagues who share the same passion for sports law and arbitration.

AP Sports Law is grateful to the organisers of the Sports Arbitration Moot for hosting such a well-run and intellectually enriching event, which brought together experts and sport arbitration enthusiasts from around the world.
