UEFA CEDB Club Competitions Report 2023/24

AP Sports Law Office conducted a research across the 2023/2024 season and attempted to record and “decode” the offences and sanctions imposed by the UEFA Control, Ethics & Disciplinary Body against clubs participating in the three UEFA club competitions (UCL, UEL, UECL).

The most important findings of the research regarding UEFA club competitions are the following:

– In the 3 UEFA club competitions (UCL, UEL, UECL), 1098 violations of the relevant regulations were reported, connected to more than 50 different provisions of the UEFA Regulations.
– The most common offence was the lighting of fireworks with 26,5% (291/1098).
– Second most common is the throwing of objects with 16,8% (185/1098) and third, the blocking of public passageways with 14,2% (156/1098).
– The total financial sanctions imposed were equal to 12.213.245€.
– The competition with the most violations was the UEFA Conference League (480).
– The country with the highest total amount of financial sanctions was Italy (1.749.000€).
– The country with the highest total amounts from fines in the UEFA Conference League was Greece with a total amount of 471.125€.
– The club with the highest total amount of fines was Olympique de Marseille (560.875€).

The data and information of the present research can provide useful conclusions to the organizational and judicial authorities of national and international associations, as well as to the administrative and legal staff of European clubs, with the aim to avoiding, counteracting and legally defending similar situations of alleged offences.
